Mixing it up with LEGO Mixels

Vulk LEGO Mixel Red

“What is this?”

The second wave of LEGO Mixels just showed up in our stores and a constant question we’ve been getting a lot is “what are they?”

I’ll admit these adorable little monsters look a little odd. Similar to the LEGO Collectible Minifigures that have been very popular the last few years, the Mixels are one of LEGO’s newest offerings for smaller and cheaper sets. Each set builds a unique Mixel monster inspired by a theme like fire, rock, or electricity, which allows for easy color coordination.

With more and more LEGO sets feeling like pre-made models, it’s refreshing to get some sets that are all about building. Each Mixel comes in its own bag (and you know exactly which one you’re getting), but the fun really begins when you add a second one… or a third. Or as many as your imagination can handle!

Dozens of Mixels

Mixels are meant to be taken apart and recombined into new little monsters! LEGO provides dozens of ideas, but they encourage kids to build their own. They also introduce some great new pieces too for aspiring builders. The ball and socket joints allow for great playability (especially since it means arms and legs won’t be falling off), while the large eyes combine two perfect things: LEGO and googly eyes! It’s a nice change of pace from some of the sets that feel more like models you put together once.

With each Mixel made to be combined with another, LEGO even offers up full instructions on making your own MAX – a giant mega Mixel! Each set allows for exponentially more builds, and that is a blast.

Mixels are the perfect gift for any LEGO fan you know. They’re small, adorable, and filled with unique pieces you won’t find anywhere where else. Add in that they are made to be taken apart and rebuilt into new creations, and you’ve got a line that is brimming with possibilities. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go finish my set!
