Britax Advocate CS arrives
The newest Britax car seat model hit our warehouse last week, and is now in our stores. The Britax Advocate CS is being hailed as the “safest” Britax model available, thanks to sophisticated side-impact protection technology. The seat has “wings” on both sides (they look a lot like bumpers) that will cushion the child in a side-impact crash and reduce the energy of the impact by up to 50%.
Side impact protection is the hot topic in car seat safety, and for good reason. According to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, one in four car crashes involving children occur from the side, and these have a much higher injury rate than crashes from the front or rear. Vehicle side airbags are not really designed to protect child passengers, making it all the more important for the car seat to perform that duty.
The “CS” in the Advocate name refers to the new Click & Safe Snug Harness Indicator, a feature that is now available on several key Britax models. Studies have found that some 59% of harness straps are kept dangerously loose, and the Click & Safe system makes it so much easier for parents and caregivers to determine exactly how tight the straps should be. Once the harness has been buckled, pull as usual to tighten the straps. The seat will click once the straps are tight enough. If you’re like me, you’re wondering if it only clicks once the straps are uncomfortably tight (if you’ve got older kids, you’ve fought those battles), but I’ve seen the CS in action, and it leaves enough breathing room for even picky kids.
The Advocate CS also has my favorite Britax feature – the quick-adjust knob that adjusts the head restraint and harness height without needing to uninstall the seat and rethread the straps.
