Words at first sight
There’s a brand new reading game for the kindergarten set. Word Chase is the first effort from Beyond Learning, a new company founded by two accomplished teachers and backed by an impressive advisory panel. The game is designed for ages four and up and it teaches familiarity with “sight words” – the 25 most common words used in the English language. The words are all in lowercase letters, to help developing readers hone their practical skills. As an extra bonus, the games are earth-friendly, printed with soy-based inks on recycled paper.
As the mom of a new reader, I am very excited about Word Chase. This game is really well done. The artwork is great, the concept is sound, and it looks like it would be fun to play (I’m planning to try it out with my daughter this weekend).
