Why I love Mustela Wipes
When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I was freelancing as a writer, working on a catalog for a posh epothecary on Newbury Street. This was my introduction to Mustela, and by the time Audrey was born, I was an avid fan. I particularly loved the wipes, which are thick and soft with a very gentle fragrance. As it turned out, my baby never suffered a day of diaper rash, as long as I used those wipes. But they were very hard to find, and so it was a constant conquest to keep them stocked (I have stories, trust me). When I did find them, I ordered them in bulk, buying 10 packages at a time. I couldn’t bear the little red prickles that would emerge every time I switched to any of the grocery brands.
Sometimes, I wonder if it was this ongoing angst that led me to open Magic Beans. At the very least, I knew I’d always have those wipes when I needed them.
Now my first baby is out of diapers, and my second is also a Mustela snob, breaking out into a rash at the mere sight of anything else. A lot of people ask me if they’re worth the price, and it’s a reasonable question. But when I recommend them, it’s not because I want you to spend twice as much on cleaning supplies for your baby’s tush. It’s just that diaper rash is a fact of life for most babies, but my kids managed to escape it, by and large. Maybe I was lucky, but maybe, just maybe it was those wipes.
