The Secret Garden
This popular story, based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is about a young girl who has to move to the house of her absentee uncle. Exploring, she finds a long-locked garden and uncovers a family secret. Wheelock Family Theatre founders Susan Kosoff and Jane Staab have written a musical that is true to this classic. Wheelock Family Theatre, 200 The Riverway. Opens Jan. 28. Visit the website for the full schedule.

From the Top
National Public Radio’s “From the Top” records its radio program at New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. At this particular show, a special guest appearance from musician Eran Egozy, creator of Guitar Hero & Rock Band, should make for an exciting night. New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, 30 Gainsborough St., 7:30-9 p.m. Visit the website for the full schedule.

Groundhog Day Celebration
It’s time to find out whether spring is on the way (ha!) or if we have six more weeks of winter. According to legend, the groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, can tell. In Ipswich, join naturalists for a fun educational program to take a closer look into this annual event and learn groundhog facts and folklore, then head outside to search for signs of spring. Ipswich River Sanctuary, 87 Perkins Row, Topsfield. From 1-2:30 p.m. Pre-registration required. Visit the website for the full schedule.

ICA Playdate: Figure and Ground
Artist Mark Bradford uses found materials: posters, signs, salvaged plywood and so on, which he layers, embellishes, erodes, and reconstitutes into abstract compositions. Bring your kids to see how he uses materials with “memory” to trace the Los Angeles surroundings where he grew up, lives and works. Then visit the Art Lab and construct collages about the neighborhood where you live. Institute of Contemporary Art, 100 Northern Ave. 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Visit the website for the full schedule.
