What’s Nest?

Nest ChairNest is a Massachusetts-based company that integrates clean, modern and kid-friendly designs with organic and sustainable materials. Sounds good, right? That’s why we’re pretty excited to be carrying their new line of kids’ furnishings. This husband and wife team have designed several pieces that are both visually appealing and very functional. I loved their toy cube, which is a compact and cute place to stash toys, but can also be a bench seat. The larger toy box is a similar design, but holds twice as much stuff. The Peanut step stool is really a piece of art, with swooping curves that lend stability as well as aesthetics. Best of all is the squashy Nest chair, which looks like a stuffed donut. The center can pop out to become a second little seating pouf or ottoman. It’s covered in vibrant organic cotton, and stuffed with recycled foam scraps.

Organic cotton is becoming increasingly popular with both manufacturers and consumers. I found a lot of interesting information about it at www.sustainablecotton.org. Realistically, not too many families can limit their households to organic cotton right now, but there are a lot of reasons why it’s worth investigating.
