The size of a stroller when folded can make all of the difference for how it fits into your lifestyle, and as we’ve noted in our many reviews of the BabyZen YoYo Stroller, that goes double when you’re traveling by plane.  The YoYo was the first stroller we introduced that folds up small enough to fit into the overhead compartment on a plane, but Baby Jogger never lags too far behind on a hot stroller trend, and the brand-new Baby Jogger City Tour Stroller is going to give the YoYo some real competition.

Like the YoYo, the Baby Jogger City Tour folds up VERY small: it can fold down to the size of a substantial backpack, measuring 22” x 9” x 17.7” (or 56 cm x 23 cm x 45 cm). It’s certified for airline travel and meets IATA standards for carry-on luggage, which means you can skip the gate check and tote it right on board. It even comes with a very nice matching carry bag with dual straps for a backpack-style carry.

The utility of this feature in the airport is obvious, but the City Tour is also going to be terrific for families with small cars, or who use mass transit a lot; it’s also going to be great in situations where kids are walking part-time and resting part-time (like, say, at Disney World!).

The City Tour Stroller has a pretty nice deep recline, but it doesn’t recline fully, so it can only be used after your baby is six months old; it can hold kids weighing up to 45 pounds.

Other features on the City Tour Stroller include:

  • A fold lock;
  • An easy multi-position recline;
  • Front-wheel suspension;
  • A retractable canopy; and more.

Accessories will include a belly bar, weather shield, cup holder, parent console, and hand muff.

The next obvious question when considering the Baby Jogger City Tour would be: how does it measure up to the BabyZen YoYo? The City Tour comes at a much lower price point (only $199!), but the YoYo can be optimized for use for a newborn, with the Newborn Pack and/or an infant car seat adapter, neither of which are (so far) available for the City Tour (but hey, it IS brand new). Our initial take is that the tires and maneuvering may also be better on the YoYo, but we haven’t had a chance to compare them side by side. Which, of course, we’ll be doing as soon as we’re able, and posting the results right here on Spilling the Beans!
