The Circus makes a comeback
During my tour of the Playmobil booth at Toy Fair, I was nearly apoplectic with joy when I saw that they have redesigned and resurrected one of my all-time favorite Playmobil themes – the Circus. When we were little, my parents bought us the complete set with the big top tent, the horses, the elephants, the tightrope walkers, the whole nine yards. To this day, they still have it, and it is mostly in tact. Now my daughters love to play with it.
Ever since we opened the store, I’ve asked anyone at Playmobil who would listen to bring back the Circus. Finally, it’s coming. I won’t take credit for it – the Circus was far too cool for me to have been the only vocal advocate for its return – but I will make sure that parents know about it.
The new Circus theme will be anchored by a big top tent that includes flashing lights. Accessory packs will contain many favorite acts, including horses and the must-have tightrope. It will be available for the 4th quarter of 2008. Why do I love it? First, it’s so unusual. The circus is something that most kids don’t get to see every day, or even more than once a year, if they’re lucky. It’s not really something they see a lot of on TV. And second, it’s appealing to both boys and girls, making it a great set for generations of enjoyment.
