Orbit Baby car seats put on a few pounds

Orbit Baby Increases Weight Limits On Car SeatsBut not from extra calories (and they aren’t any heavier, either). Through some additional testing, Orbit Baby was able to raise the weight and height limits on both their Orbit Baby Infant Car Seat and their Orbit Baby Toddler Car Seat. The Infant Car Seat is now rated for 4-30 lbs and 19-32″ tall, where previously the limit was 22 lbs and 29″. The Toddler Car Seat is now rated for 20-65lbs forward facing and up to 50″ tall, where previously the forward-facing limit was 50lbs and 49″. The rear-facing weight range did not change, and is 15-35 lbs.

Because this change is due to new testing results and not any design changes, the new ranges apply to all Orbit car seats ever manufactured. Anything that extends the lifespan of a great product is always welcome news, and this will be a nice advantage for both existing Orbit Baby customers and new parents considering an investment in the Orbit Baby system.

This is also a good opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of keeping babies and toddlers rear-facing as long as possible. Turning around the car seat isn’t a developmental milestone, and there’s no rush to check it off the list. CPSafety.com has a wealth of information about why rear-facing is safer, including crash test footage that proves why a picture is worth a thousand words.
