One step back
We have made the difficult decision to close the Hingham Magic Beans store later this month. This is uncharted territory for us, since we’ve been lucky enough to grow steadily for the last nine years. But — like this drawing illustrates so beautifully — growing a business is never a straight path.
For a company our size, every store is essential, and the Hingham location was struggling. The rent was high, and the area was saturated with competitors. We realized we needed to make some changes to keep the rest of the company healthy and strong.
We are fortunate that our landlords understood our plight (even if they wouldn’t lower our rent — a long shot, we knew). So when they offered us the opportunity to close our doors, we knew it was the right thing to do. Even if it doesn’t feel good to do it.
There are no words to adequately thank our customers on the South Shore. You welcomed us five years ago with open arms. We have loved being part of your lives and — best of all — watching your families grow. We will miss you very much, and we hope you’ll visit our other locations every now and then.
Finally, we are so grateful to our staff in Hingham. They’ve worked incredibly hard and made us very proud. They’ve handled this news with amazing grace and understanding. We hope we can find other spots for them within the Magic Beans family.
Closing this store, while painful, will ultimately make Magic Beans a stronger company. Our other four stores aren’t going anywhere, and we plan to keep growing and expanding. Sometimes you need to take a step back to keep moving forward.
Our Last Hurrah Sale will start on February 19th, and we’ll have some special deals on floor models and a few other goodies. The last day for Magic Beans Hingham will be February 24th. Please come down and say good-bye before then.
