National Get Organized Month

Every January, many people resolve to be more organized in the coming year. So it’s no surprise that January is National Get Organized (GO) Month. By now, January is almost over and in case you’re still trying to get some traction with organization, we have some great tips to keep you on track this year.

Getting overwhelmed is usually part of this process – not knowing what to keep, where to keep it, how to maintain it, can make an IBM processor overload. So, how are we humans supposed to run our systems smoothly?

1. Online Calendars

An online calendar helps you stay current no matter where you are. Not only can you schedule alerts that get sent directly to your inbox, but you can also keep tabs on the rest of your family by sharing calendars with one another. We love Google Calendars.

2. Schedule some organize-time in your day

With kids running around and a bazillion things to do before dinner, it’s tough to make sure everything is in its place. Plan a time each day, even if it’s only 15 minutes, to put things where they need to be. Get the kids to help, too.

3. Help your children stay organized on their own. As a parent, you learn quickly that kids aren’t born knowing how to be organized. They learn from watching you.  Oftentimes it’s easier to do it yourself than to spend the time begging your children to do it. These products make it easy for kids to sort and stash their own stuff:

Bathtime is much more enticing with the right games in your tub, but after the water’s drained, you’re left with a mess. Stick the Bath Toy organizer by Skip Hop to your bath wall and make clean-up a breeze.

Somehow there’s always two or three crayons missing from the pack – until you find them on the kitchen floor. The Creativity for Kids Young Artist Coloring Gift Set will give your child one compact case for all of his art supplies.

Unfortunately our cars need some careful organization of their own. Car Valet by Alex straps to the back of a front seat and has little compartments for all the essentials. It even provides a hard surface to draw or eat on. Then, just zip it back up when you arrive at your destination.

4. Indulge in some tools of your own. That’s right, indulge – these things will make your life easier, so you have more time for the fun stuff.

When you have a crying toddler who just wants some Cheerios, the last thing you want to do is fumble around in a big bag for five minutes looking for them. The Maclaren Universal Organizer helps to solve that five-minute shuffle with see-through, zippered compartments.

There are times, though, when the perfect diaper bag can be your saving grace. The Slide Diaper Bag by Go Gaga has tons of storage and many pockets to keep the important things separate.

Don’t forget the hardest thing of all to manage – paper work. Get organized from the minute your newborn comes home with the Baby Briefcase by Organized From The Start. Not only does it have folders for birth certificates, vaccinations, and other important documents about your newbie, but it’s also customizable so that you can put your child’s picture on the front.

5. Finally take some advice from your friends – everyone has great tips and tricks to keeping things in their place. Also, check out one of Sheri’s blog about keeping your playroom organized.
