Mountain Buggy not bankrupt – yet.

Rumors are swirling about the fate of Mountain Buggy, the New Zealand-based stroller manufacturer, with some saying the company has gone bankrupt. This is not the case, as far as I have been told. The company went into receivership last week. This means that the company will be reorganized and marketed for sale. Understanding that the Mountain Buggy’s good name is important to its inherent value to a prospective buyer, the appointed receivers are making sure that the company continues to operate as usual. The official notice goes on to say that all current employees will be keeping their positions, and all warranty claims will be honored – at least for the time being.

I have to believe that, even in this economy, there will be interested buyers. Mountain Buggy strollers are among the best on the market worldwide. They have done some great rebranding over the past year, and I love their new Swift model. I think they are well-positioned for growth, and I hope that they will find new owners who believe in the brand and can find a way to bring the retail prices down a bit without sacrificing the legendary quality. My fingers are crossed.
