Just as all of our customers are individuals, so are our brilliant staff members. This series of blogs is here to introduce you to the kaleidoscope of personalities that makes Magic Beans an extraordinary baby and toy store, and one we hope you’ll return to again and again!
Pru McCombs is the new manager at Magic Beans Norwell, and we asked her a few questions to help you get to know her. Visit her and her crew anytime!
Q: Tell me a bit about what you do at Magic Beans Norwell.
I am wearing many hats at the moment one of which includes acting as a coach, attempting to build an incredible team to deliver amazing results on the South Shore. The best part is seeing so many faces from my past! and helping them with their purchases.
Q: Tell me how you got started at Magic Beans.
My first visit to Magic Beans at Derby Street [our old store in Hingham] was several years ago, I was the store manager at the Loft. We were neighbors! I had the pleasure of meeting Evey at several mall meetings, and to see her big smile on my first day was a sign that this is the place for me! After my interview with Eli, I was hooked!
Q: Describe your training process. What was your favorite part of learning about baby gear and toys?
Gathering information from our website, Youtube, Eli, and several team members, as well as vendor training led to my insatiable desire to become an expert with gear. The best part of my training was my first demonstration with a customer. She arrived overwhelmed, anxious, and dizzy with all the choices parents have today. After just 30 minutes with her, she was able to relax, digest the information, and make a confident decision in her car seat purchase. The hug at the end of our experience was the best part!
Q: What do you think makes Magic Beans Norwell extra-special?
The best way to describe our location is friendly, intimate, and inspiring. Our customers are able to escape the hustle and bustle for a little while with a great place to shop, browse, and play.
Q: Let’s get a bit into some autobiographical details: where did you grow up? Are you from the Boston area? If not, how did you wind up here?
I lived in Scituate up until my junior year in high school, then moved to Coral Springs, Florida. Moving from my little hometown was scary and intimidating but in the end the best adventure and lesson in life. From there I went to St. Anselm College in Manchester, NH, ultimately returning to Scituate where I began a 13 year career with Pier 1 Imports. Pier 1 allowed me the opportunity to not only travel the world but also relocate to some amazing cities including Newport, Rhode Island, NYC, Boston, and Savannah, Georgia. I am thrilled to have been able to travel and live in some amazing places but I’m so happy to be able to raise my boys in my hometown of Scituate. Reed is now 9, and Andrew is 5.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of work?
I love spending time with friends and family when I’m not working, and I am an avid Patriots fan! Love the beach, any time of year. My boys and I play tennis and swim all year round!
Q: Let’s talk about your favorite products: what’s your favorite stroller at Magic Beans Norwell?
Where to begin? I’m in love with the ease and innovation of the Doona Infant Car Seat, every expectant parent should meet this life changing stroller option. But since that is such a special piece, I would have to say the UPPABABY Vista
Q: What other baby gear do you always recommend to new and expectant parents?
A baby bath that works for them. The experience of bathing a newborn can be daunting. Also, I recommend the Baby K’tan Baby Carrier. I introduce all expectant moms as well as newborn moms to this carrier.
Q: What are your go-to toys to recommend for customers shopping for birthday presents?
I’m a Lego girl!
Q: What toy at our stores would you have been begging for as a little kid?
Probably an iLoom Friendship Bracelet Maker.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about Magic Beans Norwell?
The people! I’m so fortunate to see so many of my old clients shopping for their kids now!
