It’s a small world.
Not too long ago, if you wanted a really beautiful dollhouse with those intricately detailed furniture sets and accessories, you needed to seek out a store that specialized in dollhouses and miniatures. These little stores are usually off the beaten path and filled with quirky charm. The goods are often pretty pricey, and therefore favored for older children. But leave it to Melissa & Doug to come up with a convincing alternative for children as young as 6.
Their new Victorian Dollhouse is stunning, both in appearance and value. The house features six rooms on two and a half storeys. Each room is exquisitely decorated and primed for furniture, which is sold separately. Everything is designed in 1:12 scale, a common size for dollhouses and accessories, so it can serve as the foundation for a future collection.
We assembled one for display in our store, and the end result is impressive. But it took two people over an hour to construct (and one of them has a degree in architecture), so this is not a good project for Christmas Eve, unless you’ve got nothing but time, patience, milk & cookies.
