Go Gaga Slide Bag Makes a Splash
The diaper bag I liked so much at the ABC show in Las Vegas has landed in our stores, and it’s getting a very warm reception. The Slide Bag is a messenger-style diaper bag that offers parents a variety of innovative features to make this one of the most flexible, functional (and almost certainly the most comfortable) diaper bags on the market.
The strap is the most unusual feature of the Slide. It looks like the shoulder strap of a pouch-style sling, with a very wide swath of fabric wrapping over the shoulder. Just like with a good baby carrier, the logic is that the wide strap will distribute the weight of the bag more evenly across the back and shoulders. Go Gaga has wisely patented this design, and they also include a padded strap cover that can be used to make the strap look more conventional.
I’ve worn this bag around several trade shows, packed to the brim with catalogs and a laptop computer, and I was amazed at how long I could wear it without experiencing discomfort.
Inside the bag, the innovations continue with a removable center divider, roomy bottle holders, and multiple deep pockets, some with zippers and some without. There are also stroller straps, which will affix the bag to most strollers when you’re out and about. The bag also includes a cushy changing pad and a wipes case. The look is sporty, which means that moms and dads can both pull it off. And once it’s done as a diaper bag, it can live on as a gym/yoga bag (the stroller straps will also hold a yoga mat) or casual laptop tote (it holds laptops up to 14″).
The brains behind this bag is Jill Cartwright, a Boston-based entrepreneur who is just a lovely, lovely person. To read a recent article from Boston Now about Jill and her bag (featuring a quote by yours truly), click here.
