Fairfield Grand Opening Spotlight: Viacord

Medical technology is not our specialty; products for kids and babies are. But Viacord is a different sort of partner in our ongoing project of serving families. Not only has Magic Beans partnered with Viacord for events for years now, but our company’s owners have banked their own child’s cord blood with Viacord. So it’s a little more personal: they’re not just looking out for our bottom line, but also our families’ health.

Sheri wrote about her experience with Viacord in our Spring 2011 magalog:

–         ViaCord has the highest survival rate among those banks which have disclosed complete transplant data. The one-year patient survival rate of families who have banked with ViaCord is 88%, and the long term patient survival rate is 82%.

–         ViaCord supports ongoing cord blood and cord tissue research at leading academic institutions in the areas of cardiac repair, cancer, stem cell amplification, Type 1 Diabetes, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Stoke, Liver Fibrosis, and cartilage sports injuries.

The potential for medical miracles using cord blood cells has barely been tapped, and Viacord will be part of the effort to discover and apply that potential.
