Day 29: Nook Pebble Lite Mattress

The Nook Pebble Lite Crib mattress has the ultimate recipe for a good night’s sleep. It isn’t something you can whip up in your kitchen, but here’s some information about the ingredients.

Eucalyptus: You’re probably familiar with this tree as an ingredient in your cough drops, and as a home for koalas. But did you know that eucalyptus can also be processed into incredibly soft and comfortable fabric? Wild eucalyptus trees are remarkably effective at absorbing water from the surrounding soil, and eucalyptus fabric, is wonderful for absorbing moisture as well.

As a result, the eucalyptus fibers used in the “Pebble Wrap” on the Nook Pebble Lite mattress are superb at wicking away sweat, keeping babies comfy on warmer nights. It’s also silky soft – and eucalyptus is a renewable resource, with low environmental impact.

100% natural latex: The sap of the rubber tree is collected by carefully cutting an incision into the tree’s bark, taking care not to harm the tree’s growth. As a result, rubber trees can be used and tapped for many, many years, making natural latex rubber an excellent renewable material.

Also, because it’s an open-celled material, natural latex lets air through; this is just one of the components of the Nook Pebble Lite Crib Mattress that makes it more breathable than any other mattress. Aerated channels are cut into the Pebble Lite’s latex core to let even more air through. Plus, the latex core is hypoallergenic, antibacterial, and anti-mite.

Zinc: This little-acknowledged but very essential metallic element is an essential trace element needed by all plants, animals, and microorganisms. Plus, it’s used to make brass, bronze, nickel silver, and any number of other wonderful things. We wouldn’t much like to live in a world without zinc.

The removable Pebble Wrap on the Nook Pebble Lite Mattress is infused with zinc, providing natural resistance to microbes, mites, mold, and fungi, protecting your baby from common allergens.

Organic Certified Wool: Organic sheep are the happiest sheep, eating tasty grass and roaming on green pastures. They’re also happy because not only does their wool keep them warm in the winter, but it also helps to keep them cool during the summer! It pulls heat away from their skin – and it will do the same for your child, sleeping on her Nook mattress. The Pebble Lite’s fire barrier is made from organic wool – it can get very hot without igniting, so it’s a wonderful natural fire retardant.

Certified Organic Cotton: Cotton is the most widely-used natural fiber used in clothing around the world, so chances are good that you’re wearing something made out of cotton right now. Take a handful of your sleeve and rub it between your fingers – it’s smooth and soft, but it’s also very sturdy, and the more you wash a teeshirt, the nicer it feels.

The cotton used in the Pebble Wrap is 100% organic, which means that your baby gets all the softness of cotton without any pesticide or herbicide residues. This cotton is kind to both your baby and to the earth – no nasty chemicals soaked into the soil when it was grown, and no workers inhaled chemicals while harvesting it. What could be gentler?

PETE: Don’t be alarmed by the name “polyethylene teraphthalate” – PETE (or PET) is as safe and environmentally-friendly as plastic gets. The PETE used to form the air channels in the Nook Pebble Lite Mattress is Oeko-Tex safety certified, and PETE is commonly used to store foods, since it doesn’t leach any harmful chemicals. You know that chemical smell that some mattresses have? You won’t find it here.

Nook spun all of these wonderful ingredients together to make the ultimate crib mattress – safe, comfortable, and totally neat-looking. Enter to win a Nook Pebble Lite Crib Mattress today!
