Day 25 – Wishbone Bike
The Wishbone Bike from Skip Hop is my new favorite recommendation for someone looking to buy a really special gift for a 1-year old. This beautiful bike begins life as a three-wheeled foot-trike (meaning there aren’t any pedals, kids push with their feet to make it go). Then, as they get older, you can convert it first into a two-wheeled balance bike, and later, you can flip the wooden frame to add extra height for children as old as 4 or 5.
Balance bikes have become increasingly popular with parents over the past few years. As a parent currently trying to teach a nervous 7-year-old to ride a bike, I wish I’d had her spend more time on a balance bike when she was smaller. Watching children who use them a lot, they become very comfortable balancing on the two wheels, and it becomes much smoother transition to a regular bike. Even now, my tactic has been to have her sit on the bicycle seat and just ignore the pedals and push with her feet, and it’s the only thing that’s working.
The Wishbone Bike is also an eco-friendly product. The plastic wheels are made from 60% post-consumer recycled plastic, and the wood is taken from sustainably managed forests. All the finishing varnishes and sealants are eco-friendly, too. The Wishbone Bike is our Day 25 giveaway. Enter now.
