Child Passenger Safety Week 2017 & win a Cybex Cloud Q!
Child Passenger Safety Week 2017 is underway! The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and CPSTs across the nation are banding together to help families ensure their children are riding as safely and securely as possible.
Ensuring proper car seat installation really can’t be underscored enough. Nearly 85% of car seats in the USA are installed incorrectly, and car crashes are a leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 13. Often, these deaths and injuries can be prevented by the proper use of car seats, booster seats, and seat belts. Child Passenger Safety Technicians nationwide will offer events all week—and especially on Saturday the 23rd—to empower parents with knowledge of correct installation and use. Your local Office of Public Safety will likely provide a list of events near you. Here are a list of car seat checkup events in Massachusetts.
CPSTs check for proper installation, but they also help determine whether or not your child is in the proper type of car seat. As a parent, it’s definitely easy to get lost in the gray areas. That’s what CPSTs are for. They’ll also discuss the importance of registering your car seat with its manufacturer. Once it’s registered, the manufacturer can directly contact you in the event of a car seat recall. In the meantime, check out the NHTSA’s awesome resources for car seats and booster seats. The NHTSA includes a Car Seat Finder where you simply plug in your child’s age, height, and weight and they will match you with the right car seat!
