Chewbeads to the rescue
My mother’s jewelry has always mesmerized me. As a baby, even the simplest earrings or rings made my eyes sparkle. A few years back, my mom confessed that while she loves me very much, this girlhood fascination of mine was nothing short of a nuisance. She’d lovingly hold me in her arms and I, in turn, would tug at her beautiful string of pearls and nosh on her stone pendants. The beginning of an amazing mother-daughter relationship!
My mom knew it wasn’t my fault – I was teething! I needed to munch on things to soothe my swollen little gums. My mom wanted to help me, but she wasn’t going to string a rope around one of my teether and throw it around her neck – she’s a practical mom, but she’s also a regal woman with her own sense of style. What my mom needed were Chewbeads, created by fashionista Lisa Greenwald.
Chewbeads is a line of colorful necklaces and bracelets created specifically with curious and teething babies in mind. The beads are made of FDA-approved silicone, and are super soft on baby’s gums and new teeth – they can take plenty of abuse and contain no unwanted chemicals. Chewbeads also have breakaway clasps, and can help babies focus while nursing.
The best part about Chewbeads is that they’re super chic (think Anthropologie) – no one would ever know that your insanely cute necklace doubled as a teether. There are colors to fit every outfit; some are inspired by semi-precious stones (turquoise, ivory, wine) and others are bright and electric – reminiscent of American Apparel’s color palette.
