Bigger Mountain Range
Today, Sycamore Kids announced a new universal infant car seat clip for the Mountain Buggy Urban Single that will offer the broadest compatibility of almost any stroller on the market, with seven different seats accommodated. Once this new adapter is released, parents will have their choice of the following seats:
- Maxi-Cosi Mico
- Britax Companion
- Combi (not sure if it’s the Connection, the Centre or both – I need to check)
- Chicco Key Fit
- Graco Snugride (with existing clip)
- Peg Perego (with existing clip)
To me, this is a huge advantage for Mountain Buggy. There are some great infant car seats out there, and the biggest downside to many of them is the matching stroller. Take the Chicco Key Fit for example. I love that seat. I’ve loved that seat from the first moment I saw a prototype. It’s a wonderfully designed infant car seat that’s easy to install and easy to use, and it’s particularly good for premature babies.
But for reasons I will never understand, Chicco has only ever paired it with strollers that are over 18 lbs. To me, that’s just illogical. A good travel system should be lightweight, compact and designed to, well, travel. If you’re going to carry extra weight, you should at least enjoy the smooth handling and tight turning radius of a nice all-terrain stroller. End of rant.
The good news is, now I can bring in the Key Fit seat, since now there’s a stroller we can recommend to go with it. Though I wish there were a lightweight stroller to pair it with, too. Chicco? Are you listening? OK, really end of rant.
Chicco aside, the other seats on the list are notable, too. I’m really pleased that Mountain Buggy took the initiative to design this clip. The Urban Single doesn’t always get as much attention as its sibling, the Urban Double, but this new accessory might just change that.
The Mountain Buggy Multi-Carseat Adapter will be available around the end of December. Suggested Retail Price will be $48.
