Babies are on strict arrival schedules and waiting for the newest car seat model can mean pushing your luck waiting for new releases.

The car seat industry exists in a constant state of flux. Every year brings new innovations and technology that have to co-exist with each nation's regulations. Obviously you want the newest and safest engineering to surround your tiniest family members. With COVID having limited and delayed releases across all industries, we finally starting to see big and small brands alike releasing new and/or updated car seat models.

So if you’re shopping for a car seat in 2022/2023 this article will help map out the best time of year to purchase your new car seat. Before I go into the specifics by make and model, I want to point out that there are two trade shows to pay attention to:

The Kind + Jugend (K&J) baby gear expo in Cologne, Germany is typically where huge brands like Thule, UPPAbaby, Bugaboo, and many others showcase their upcoming launches. K&J happens in September so manufacturers can launch new products the following March/April after Chinese New Year.

The ABC Kids Expo, in particular for US consumers, is the other trade show to watch. This American trade show is usually held in Las Vegas in May. While relatively few launches happened at ABC 2022 but we did see major debuts in the Veer Switchback convertible stroller and the UPPAbaby Mesa Max infant car seat.

Here are the major baby gear brands with the most recent updates for 2023, and what my predictions are for their changes!

Britax Car Seats 2023

Britax spent 2022 focusing on updating the majority of their car seat fabrics to more parent friendly materials. Gone are the cheap, slippery fabrics that caused kids to sweat so badly. The 2022 Britax car seats fabrics are softer than ever, free of flame-retardant chemicals, and often machine washable.

Britax Marathon 2023

Britax Boulevard 2023

Earlier this year, Britax debuted five Safewash fabric colors on their Britax Boulevard 2022 while discontinuing most of their prior fabrics. Britax car seats don't have as many annual updates as other brands so I'm not holding my breath for any huge updates on the Britax Marathon 2023. 

Britax Advocate 2023 

Five new Britax Boulevard 2022 Safewash fabrics debuted in the spring of 2022 in a major modern design overhaul for Britax convertibles. Britax makes smart mechanical updates every few years instead of annually, so far I'd be surprised if we saw any engineering updates on the Britax Advocate 2023.

Britax One4Life 2023 

The Britax One4Life 2022 debuted less than two years ago, at the end of 2019. Yearly fabric and color changes are the only updates to the Britax One4Life 2022 that we've seen since then. Britax doesn't make tons of major updates too often so I'd be surprised if they debut dramatic changes in 2023.

Britax Grow With You 2023

The Britax Grow With You 2021/2022 replaced the now discontinued Britax Frontier. Being such a new car seat model, I'd really be shocked if any mechanical changes came about in 2023. The Britax Grow With You 2021/2022 had several new fabrics debut in early 2022 and I'd expect more for 2023.

Bugaboo Car Seats 2023

Bugaboo Turtle Air 2023 

The Bugaboo Turtle Air 2022 was created in close partnership with Nuna and modeled after the beloved Nuna Pipa car seat line. It was released in American barely 12 months ago and comes with the most up to date Nuna RELX Car Seat Base. Given how brand new the Bugaboo Turtle Air 2022 is, I'd be really shocked if any changes were made to it for 2023. The Turtle colors have always been limited to basic black and grey so IF any changes are made I'd bet it's color related.

Clek Car Seats 2023

Clek is a wildcard. As the only brand to manufacture car seats in North America they have the unique benefit of proximity. Clek doesn't have to fly their design and engineering team to China, the world's car seat manufacturing hub. This means they can make quick updates to their lineup, can be more efficient, and are capable of surprising us with new products.

The base-free Clek Liingo 2022 is the newest infant car seat on this list. Design less than two years ago, it's still brand new and has only seen changes to its color lineup. It's a 50/50 toss up as to whether or not we'll see mechanical changes to the Clek Liingo 2023.

Clek Liing 2023 

Clek's very first infant car seat, the Clek Liing 2022, hasn't seen too many changes in its short 2-3 years on the American market. Because we haven't seen a large update, 2023 could be the year for it. But I wouldn't be surprised either way.

Clek Fllo 2023  

Clek went through a massive fabric changeover two years ago but haven't made significant engineering updates in a while. The Clek Fllo 2022 is a reliable and safe car seat so it's not in need of frequent changes. I would be surprised if Clek made many changes to the Clek Fllo 2023.

Clek Foonf 2023

The Clek Foonf 2022 is one of the older car seat models on this list. It's gone through its growing pains and has evolved into one of the industries most well designed and trusted safety devices. The Clek Foonf 2022 just doesn't have a lot of areas to improve. I'd be really caught off guard if the Clek Foonf 2023 was very different from the current Clek Foonf 2022.

Diono Car Seats 2023

Diono has made reliable and safe car seats for decades. But in the last few years they've created a crowded lineup of car seats that's nearly impossible to differentiate. 

Diono Radian 3R 2023 

The Diono Radian 3R 2022 is a jack-of-all-trades car seat, safe from infant to kid aged. Its narrow, shallow frame fits three across, in between other car seats, and in the smallest of cars. Diono hasn't changed the Diono Radian 3R 2022 much in its 10+ years and I'm betting that will stay the case for the Diono Radian 3R 2023.

Diono Radian 3RXT 2023 &

Diono Radian 3RXT Luxe 2023

The Diono Radian 3RXT 2022 & Diono Radian 3RXT Luxe 2022 are the same  car seat model, with the latter coming in a graphic and camo fabric options and with two cup holders. The differences between the MANY Diono car seas  are so small that there can't be many changes year to year. I'm guessing these two will stay the same in their Diono Radian 3RXT 2023 and Diono Radian 3 RXT Luxe 2023 models.

Diono Radian 3RXT Safe+ 2023

The Diono Radian 3RXT Safe+ 2022 is extremely similar to two other Diono car seats (Diono Radian 3QXT 2022 and Diono Radian 3QXT+ 2022). The biggest difference is that Diono Radian 3RXT Safe+ 2022 does NOT have the outer side impact protection layer by the head. I can't imagine at this time that the Diono Radian 3RXT Safe+ 2023 can change without it becoming too similar to other existing Diono car seats.

Diono Monterey 5 iST Booster 2023 

The Diono Monterey 5 iST Booster 2022 hasn't seen many updates in a while. Its adjustable head rest and should wings make it the most gadget-like booster seat on this list. If Diono continues their tradition of letting years pass in between product updates, as I predict they will, then we won't see any changes in the Diono Monterey 5 iST Booster 2023. 

Diono Solana 2 Backless Booster 2023

A simple backless booster like the Diono Solana 2 2022 isn't as overly engineered as other car seat stages. This could mean the Diono Solana 2 2022 could see its first updates in a few years, but I doubt it. 

Doona Car Seats 2023

Doona Infant Car Seat 2023 

The Doona Infant Car Seat 2022 brought with it several broad updates including a new black frame, black fabric, with a better tailored canopy. Updating car seats is expensive so I would be shocked if there were any non-color updates on the Doona Infant Car Seat 2023.

Nuna Car Seats 2023

Nuna has released a slew of car seats in the last 2 years. Currently they have a whopping SIX versions of the Pipa infant car seat. It's too many, and creates riddles for a demographic of people already experiencing "pregnancy brain". 

Nuna Pipa w/ Pipa Series Base 2023   

The Pipa Series Infant Car Seat Base is several years older than the newer Nuna RELX Infant Car Seat Base, which offers far more safety and comfort features. Nuna Pipa w Pipa Series Base 2022 is one of thee Nuna Pipas still using the older base. The older Nuna Pipa Series Base is probably on its last legs. I'll be surprised if it remains part of the Nuna Pipa 2023 (and truly shocked if it was part of the eventual Nuna Pipa w Pipa Series Base 2024).

Nuna Pipa Lite w/ Pipa Series Base 2023

The Nuna Pipa Lite w/ Pipa Series Base 2022 is the second of three Nuna Pipas sold with the older Pipa Series Base. It's hard to predict what a Nuna will do with SIX similar infant car seats, but eventually Nuna will have to make some cuts. I'll be surprised if the Pipa Series Base last through 2023, or 2024.

Nuna Pipa Lite LX w/ Pipa Series Base 2023  

The third car seat still using the old Nuna Pipa Series Base is the Nuna Pipa Lite LX w/ Pipa Series Base 2022. The Nuna Pipa Lite RX weighs just as little and it comes with the Sky Drape and newer Nuna RELX Infant Car Seat Base. There's less and less reason to have the older Nuna Pipa Series Base going into the future.

Nuna Pipa RX w RELX Base 2023 

The Nuna Pipa RX w RELX Base 2022 had some gorgeous new colors added for the 2022 model. But there haven't been too many changes (frankly I don't think there's much that needs updating). I'm not betting on many changes for Nuna Pipa RX w RELX Base 2023.

Nuna Pipa Lite R w/ RELX Base 2023 

The feather-light Nuna Pipa Lite R w/ RELX Base 2022 also saw a slew of new colors in 2022. I'm not predicting changes for the Nuna Pipa Lite R w/ RELX Base 2023, and will be surprised if Nuna makes any.

Nuna Pipa Lite RX w/ RELX Base 2023 

The  feather-light Nuna Pipa Lite R w/ RELX Base 2022 also saw a slew of new colors in 2022. I'm not predicting changes for the Nuna Pipa Lite R w/ RELX Base 2023, and would be surprised if Nuna makes any.

Nuna Rava 2023

While the Nuna Rava 2022 hasn't seen huge updates in a few years, it's hard to say whether it will or will not have changes on the Nuna Rava 2023. Nuna isn't a brand who gives into frequent model makeovers, I would be surprised if any dramatic updates were made for 2023. 

Nuna REVV 2023 

The Nuna REVV 2022 is the newest car seat from Nuna. Given Nuna's history of waiting a couple years between updates, I'm not holding my breath for a new model or any major updates (if anything at all) on the Nuna REVV 2023.

Nuna Exec 2023 

Several modern colors were added to the Nuna Exec 2022 lineup. Very little has changed in the Nuna Exec 2022 during its three years on the American market. I wouldn't blink twice if they do decide to incorporate updates into the Nuna Exec 2023 model, but this is just an estimation based on how long it's been on the market without updates.

Nuna AACE 2023 

The Nuna AACE 2022 got a flame-retardant free update a couple years ago. Being the less intense car seat by Nuna, the Nuna AACE 2022 doesn't require frequent updates. I'm not expecting updates any updates to the Nuna AACE 2023 but would be pleasantly surprised if they happened. 

UPPAbaby Car Seats 2023

Historically, UPPAbaby is a brand that likes to re-release each product every calendar year. Two new infant car seats debuting in the fall of 2022 Marking the furthest into the year Uppa has ever debuted a new product. 

UPPAbaby Mesa V2 2023

The UPPAbaby Mesa V2 2022 will replace the now discontinued UPPAbaby Mesa car seat. With such a late in the year release, I would be truly shocked if 2023 brought about any updates to the UPPAbaby Mesa V2 2023.

UPPAbaby Mesa Max 2023  

The UPPAbaby Mesa Max 2022 is set to debut in America in the fall of 2022. UPPAbaby typically releases new products early in the calendar year, so fall is a new one for them. As such a new car seat for 2022, I'd be shocked if the UPPAbaby Mesa Max 2023 did have any new features over the UPPAbaby Mesa Max 2022.

UPPAbaby Knox 2023 &

UPPAbaby Alta 2023  

These two car seats were first released within the last two years. The UPPAbaby Knox 2022 went through a series of changes once already while the UPPAbaby Alta 2022 has gone relatively unchanged. Given that UPPA loves to re-release  most of their product at the beginning, there will almost definitely be 2023 versions of each. But whether or not any changes are made is still a 50/50 chance.

The Wayb Pico 2022 was just released earlier this year. It's expensive to make changes to car seats so it would be a surprise if anything mechanical changed on the Wayb Pico 2023.
