2021 Silver Cross Wave vs 2021 Uppababy Vista V2 ( Ratings Reviews Prices )

The last few years have been a boon for strollers that convert to doubles, with tons of new options arriving annually, but none as incredible as the Silver Cross Wave and Uppababy Vista V2. For a stroller to last through three or more children it has to have the durability to withstand whatever parents can throw at it. So whenever we discuss these kinds of strollers, we start with two brands who’ve aged with the industry and know what it takes to make a long-lasting stroller. Uppababy’s Massachusetts heritage led them to a national stage, with 15+ years of tinkering with and perfecting their flagship Vista, while Silver Cross has British Royal heritage. Silver Cross has been around since the 1800s! They started by making prams for the royal family, but eventually ended in a more consumer-friendly market with uniquely durable craftsmanship.

The 2021 Uppababy Vista V2 is the culmination of years of work, a stroller fit for the whole family. It's agile and durable, with huge wheels that can handle many terrains, and a toddler seat that lasts until your child is 50lbs. It includes the luxury of the sleep-safe Uppababy Bassinet (as long as you get the Uppababy Bassinet Stand) and the convenience of an enormous basket space for parents. Fun fabrics offer an adventurous complement for parents’ fashion and real (kid-safe!) leather adorns the handlebars for added class. Uppababy knows what parents need and it helped them create an unmatched combination of convenience and class.

The Silver Cross Wave offers similar features. It makes for an incredibly smooth ride, with a sturdy frame and rubberized wheels to give the stroller more natural suspension than foam wheels offer. It has leatherette accents to keep it vegan, and offers gorgeous fabrics throughout. The bassinet is also included in the Silver Cross Wave package, though you also need the Silver Cross Bassinet Stand to accommodate overnight sleep. It offers a more refined palate in terms of color and fabric options.

As single strollers these are near identical. Both have elevated seats, keeping parents close to baby. They have flip-flop friendly brakes, adjustable handlebars and reversible seats. All of these are hugely helpful luxuries, especially the reversible seats! Every parent wants to face their baby, and because both the Uppababy Vista V2 and the Silver Cross Wave begin with a reversible seat they have significantly more configurations to offer in the long run.

The biggest difference is size. The 2021 Silver Cross Wave shaved off 4.4lbs to make it similar in weight with the Uppababy Vista V2, but, when folded, the strollers take up space differently. The Uppababy Vista V2 stands upright, with its seat on, and retains an incredibly narrow and stable footprint (it won’t fall over if something knocks into it lightly), whereas the Silver Cross Wave is a lot wider when folded and stands more precariously. This can make it a challenge to fit in smaller trunks.

The biggest functional differences lay in the double modes of each stroller. The Uppababy Vista is notoriously more limited in configurations because of its size. When both seats are attached, the Vista is a bit shorter in length, leading to a tighter turning radius, but limiting its configuration options. When using the Uppababy Vista for two children of different ages, the bassinet must go on the front of the stroller, with the toddler seated by the parent.

The Silver Cross Wave has no such limitations, offering over 30 configurations for double mode compared to the Uppababy Vista’s roughly half that. The other limitation on the Uppababy Vista is the front seat weight limit. The front of the stroller is actually designed to hold roughly 33 pounds, leaving you likely to put your younger child on the front, and older child on the rear of the stroller. This limitation extends to the bassinet. When using a seat and a bassinet on the Uppababy Vista, the bassinet is required to be in the front position.

If you’re thinking about adding their Piggyback Board, the other difference between these two strollers is storage space. The Uppababy Vista’s basket extends back towards the driver, creating a huge and versatile basket for parents to utilize, but cutting the space between kiddo on their piggyback board and the parent driving. This can lead to frustration while steering, accidentally kicking the board or just getting too close too kiddo for it to be comfortable.

The Silver Cross Wave holds 55 pounds on its upper seat, and the Silver Cross Wave Tandem Seat, which fits on the front seat, holds another 55 pounds(!) and allows for a lot more wiggle room with positioning kids in the stroller. It also does not limit you in where the bassinet can be attached. Almost all configurations are possible with this stroller, so you won’t be limited in how close you can be to your little one in the early months. The Silver Cross Wave’s Kid Board is a little better designed. The handlebar of the stroller pulls out farther than most (making it amazing for very tall parents) and the space between driver and kiddo is unencumbered by the basket, giving you and your child the breathing room to comfortably and safely stroll with ease.

If you’re having twins, not much of this should worry you, both strollers do well simultaneously holding two car seats, two bassinets, or two seats. The real consideration is when the children aren’t the same age.

The Silver Cross Wave 2021 can be used as a travel system with the purchase of the Silver Cross Wave 2021 car seat adapters sold separately or the Silver Cross Wave 2021 lower car seat adapters for twin travel systems. The infant car seat adapters are compatible with the Nuna Pipa, Nuna Pipa Lite, Nuna Pipa Lite LX, Nuna Pipa Lite R, Nuna Pipa RX, Cybex Cloud Q, Clek Liing, Bugaboo Turtle One, and more!

The Uppababy Vista V2 can also be used (with appropriate adapters!) with the Nuna Pipa Series, the Cybex Cloud Q, the Clek Liing, Bugaboo Turtle One and their own car seat, the Uppababy Mesa (without any adapters). Make sure to grab Upper Adapters, Lower Adapters and whichever car seat adapter you need to ensure its a perfect fit in double mode!

My daughter fell in love with this stroller when she the configurations of the seats and likes how it rolls and the sleek look. I purchased this for her shower and it’s in the box untouched. I was with a 3rd time mom yesterday who has this stroller and pointed out that when you go to put it in the car you need to remove both seats before you can fold it into your car. This was concerning for me because being a mother of 4 myself this seems like the last thing you would want to do after a busy day out with little ones. Can you elaborate on this?
Thanks
