Being a mom is hard work. We deserve this special day to bask in our accomplishments and maybe, just maybe get some extra sleep. Have breakfast in bed. Get a pedicure? Is my husband reading this?

In any case, most moms are wishing for a little bit of time to themselves. So if you’re in the Boston area, check out the calendar of local events at GoCityKids.com, and find something your kids would love to do, then find someone else to take them. Or decide you’d miss them too much and go along for the fun.

Sunday June 17 is Father’s Day, but in Brookline, it’s also Flag Day. There are many festivities associated with this Town-wide celebration, but one of the highlights of the day is the 5K road race and half-mile mini-race for kids under 10. This relatively small but spirited road race is an excellent choice for anyone looking to dip a toe into the world of running. Plus, you get to run right by Magic Beans and our cheering section. It’s not the Wellesley girls, but we do the best we can.

Last year, Magic Beans owners Sheri and Eli ran the race together. It was Sheri’s first race, so they took it nice and slow. This year, Eli thinks he can do it a lot faster, so he’s throwing down the gauntlet. Any Magic Beans customer who finishes ahead of him will win cash to spend at the store.  We’re paying $5 in store credit for every 30 seconds you come in ahead of Eli.

Even if you don’t think you can beat Eli, please come out and run with Team Beans. We’ll be raising money for Children’s Hospital, and if you (or your kids) preregister with us and pledge a suggested donation of $10, we’ll give all the runners a really cool, commemorative Team Beans t-shirt.

To join Team Beans and/or register for Eli’s Challenge, you need to e-mail us before June 11. Please include the full names and ages of all the runners, as well as their t-shirt sizes. We will collect the donations for Children’s Hospital and distribute the shirts during race registration on June 17. In addition to preregistering with Team Beans, you also must register for the race itself. You can do this online by clicking here.

They've been very hard to come by, but we finally received a large shipment of Webkinz this week.
